Subject: 8 closed loop steppers
Hi Tom

I want to have 8 closed loop steppers,

First option: Mux JP5 to JP6 encoder inputs, set bit8 on FPGAW(ENC_NOISE_FILTER_ADD).

JP6 Encoder inputs now:
IO26 - IO33 EncoderInput 4-7

JP5 StepDir generators:
IO36 - IO43 StepGen 4-7

JP7 unchanged
JP4 unchanged

Second option: Mux JP7 StepDir generators to JP4/JP6 (FPGA(STEP_PULSE_LENGTH_ADD)=32 + 0x40)

JP4 StepDir generators:
IO22-IO35 StepGen 0-3

JP6 StepDir generators:
IO26 - IO33 StepGen 0-3

JP5 StepDir generators:
IO36 - IO43 StepGen 4-7

JP7 Encoder inputs now:
IO0-IO15 EncoderInput 0-7 ??

Is it correct?

Hi Albert,

Option #1 is correct.

Option #2 is not stated correctly and will not allow 8 Step/Dir Generators and 8 Encoder inputs.  Rather it moves the 4 Step/Dir Generators from JP7 to JP4 and JP6 (2 each).  This is useful if you still want to have Kanalog connected and still use the Step/Dir outputs normally on JP7.  But there will still be a conflict with shared Encoder/Step/Dir pins on JP5.  6 CL Stepper axes are possible in this mode.

Sorry this is so confusing but we are needing to fit a lot of options into a limited number of pins.

TK

Hi Albert,

This looks like a re-post of a previous message that we answered here:
